Setting up Bitmoji on Apple devices seems relatively simple, while Android users are stuck trying to figure out how to properly install the Bitmoji Keyboard on Android devices.

In case you’re unaware, Bitmoji is a smartphone app that allows you to create a custom avatar that’s based on your own facial features. This avatar can be shared as emojis, or Bitmojis, throughout numerous messaging apps.

How to Set up Bitmoji Keyboard on Android Devices

So, how do you set up the Bitmoji Keyboard on Android devices? It is a pretty straightforward process. You mainly just have to follow the instructions after installing the Bitmoji app from the Google Play store.

Once you install the Bitmoji app, you will have to either create an account or log in using your Snapchat account. Bitmoji and Snapchat are both owned by the same company, so you are able to log in to both apps with the same username and password.

If you don’t have Snapchat, you can register for a new account directly through the Bitmoji app. From there, you set up your profile with basic information and begin customizing your unique Bitmoji avatar.

You can create your Bitmoji to look exactly like you, using the same skin tone, gender, facial features, hair, and even clothes. Of course, you can opt to create a Bitmoji that looks nothing like you. But that sort of defeats the purpose of the app.

Once you’re done designing your Bitmoji, tap the checkmark in the top right corner of the screen. That will save your Bitmoji and will make your avatar the basis for all Bitmojis that you create.

Now, you can simply use Bitmoji from the app. That’s a good choice if you plan on just using it every so often.

However, if you are looking to use your Bitmoji character in regular conversations with friends, it will be worth your time to install the Bitmoji Keyboard onto your phone. So, how do you go about installing the Bitmoji Keyboard on Android devices?

Steps to Installing Bitmoji on Your Android Device

Once you have your Bitmoji account and avatar created, you’ll probably want to install the Bitmoji keyboard so that you can send it to friends without having to go to the app every single time.

To do this, go to the Bitmoji app and tap the three dots in the top right corner of your screen. That will open a dropdown menu where you will want to click on “Settings.”

Once you’re in the Settings menu, you should then choose “Bitmoji Keyboard.” Then, tap “Enable Keyboard.”

From there, you will be taken to your device’s Language and Settings Menu. To enable the Bitmoji Keyboard on Android devices, you simply can toggle the switch next to “Bitmoji Keyboard” in this menu to “on.” Once you do this, you can use Bitmoji in your messages.

However, if you stop here, you’ll have to go to that menu and switch the option off to switch back to your standard text keyboard. It will get extremely monotonous after a few times of using it, but there’s a way to avoid this.

Installing Gboard

To make the Bitmoji Keyboard process simpler, you will need to install Google’s Gboard keyboard. If you don’t already have it installed, you can install it for free from the Google Play store.

Once you have Gboard installed, you should go to the Settings menu and tap “Language & Input.” From there, select “Current Keyboard.” If you have a Samsung Galaxy, it will be called “On-Screen Keyboard.”

From that screen, you will get a pop-up window. Tap “Choose Keyboards,” or, if you have a Samsung Galaxy, “Manage Keyboards.”

Now that you’ve done this, there will be a list of all of the keyboards that you have on your phone. Toggle the switches next to “Bitmoji Keyboard” and “Gboard” to “on,” to ensure that both of these are active.

Finally, you will open the Gboard app and set Gboard as your default keyboard using the following methods:

  • Select Input Method
  • Gboard
  • Set Permissions
  • Allow
  • Done

Now that you have Gboard configured, you are set to use Bitmoji in various messaging apps that support it.

How to Use Bitmoji on Android Devices

Once you have Bitmoji and Gboard up and running, you can use Bitmoji in various messaging apps. To do this, click on the smiley face icon when you’re on the keyboard.

Once you tap that icon, you’ll want to press the small Bitmoji icon located in the middle of the bottom of the screen. A window with all of your Bitmojis will then show up. You can scroll through them to choose which one you want to send, or use the search feature to find a specific one.

Once you choose a Bitmoji to send, all you have to do is tap on it to insert it into your message, then type send. It’s that simple!
