The debate continues as to why new Android smartphones doesn’t land with the latest operating system. But, it’s great to see old phones like the OnePlus 3 and 3T receiving the latest OS providing intuitive user experience.
In the past, it used to be a really tough time for users when manufacturers would simply skip the update and proceed with their new product. Besides, the hardware specifications of the smartphones were never powerful enough to manage all the nifty features introduced in newest Android operating systems. The trend changed with Android 4.4 Kit Kat which managed to find its way on a lot of models and some of them got upgraded to the versions released after that.
Following the similar trend, the development team behind the OnePlus 3 and 3T confirmed that they are now officially rolling out the 8.0 update for their smartphones. The smartphones got released nearly two years ago yet were powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon flagship processor and it enables them to be able to handle the advanced picture in picture mode among other features you would find in the operating system.
Before the official rollout, the team released a beta version of Oreo allowing developers and users to find any bugs, glitches in the update before the full version is introduced for the smartphone. The beta was limited to a small group of users and statistics were collected to ensure a smooth transition is possible when the operating system is rolled out to all OnePlus customers. Things seem to have gone as planned for the development team.
Android 8.0 Oreo is being offered as an OTA, over the air update fora limited number of users and will continue to be rolled out in lots so that there is no delay or any technical difficulties in bringing all OnePlus 3 and 3T users onboard. The company in their official blog has detailed all the changes they are making to customize the OS and to make it more suitable for the custom user interface used in their phones.
All the most expected features are part of the update as 8.0 brings picture in picture mode, parallel apps, auto-fill, smart text selection, quick settings design and also includes a security patch update specific for the month of September. The launcher in the phone now has new notification dots to let you know when a message is waiting to be read, new app folder design and also provides users the ability to directly upload everything they capture to the Shot on OnePlus without having to undergo any additional procedure.
It was very surprising and kind of disappointing for many users when the latest flagship model OnePlus 5T got launched without Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. Instead, the developers had to keep things under control and released the smartphone which was running on 7.0 OS out of the box. As Oreo is a relatively new update for the community, the team wanted to ensure it seamlessly worked with the hardware used in the new smartphone.
Things have been going steady for the OnePlus brand but the company is far behind when it comes to competing with the likes of Apple and Samsung. All the popular brands of the world have jumped leaps by introducing fully bezel less design and also removing the fingerprint sensor so as to make Face ID the common way to unlock a smartphone. OnePlus devices used to be the go-to choice for mid-range devices with an affordable price tag which it still is but has to innovate in terms of design and value the phone delivers to its buyers.
