WhatsApp recently announced the achievement of a major milestone in its continued efforts of becoming the ultimate service provider with respect to communication services.
The chat app recently confirmed that it has now reached a massive 1 billion active user per day. This announcement came after the company had also mentioned that it now handles more than 1.2 billion active users per month, a figure that has now moved up to more than 1.3 billion.
These are insane figures and while a lot has to do with the app’s ease of use on mobile phones, the fact that WhatsApp can also be used on other devices such as PCs has made it more attractive for new users to come on board. Before, it was only possible to enjoy the services of the chat app on a mobile phone, something that meant other people were not into the app, especially those people who spend most of their times on computers at work and are not allowed to use their phones during work hours.
If your boss doesn’t like seeing you on a phone when at work and there’s that friend of yours that you need to pass message to via WhatsApp, there’s little to worry about. Not only will you be able to enjoy a better typing space on a bigger keyboard, but you will also be able to get a better look at pictures shared on the app, easily manage reading of long posts as well as have an easier time when scrolling through group chats when in search of something.
There are two ways of using WhatsApp on your computer. One way is using the web application via the installed web browser and the other is turning to a WhatsApp for PC app, which can be downloaded via the official website. Once they are set up, the two work in the same way and have the same interface, only that one is installed and the other is accessed via the web browser. In short, the choice of which one to use is yours.
The web version, which is known as WhatsApp Web, is the easiest and has close to zero hassles of setting it up. All you need is the app to be working on your phone and once this is confirmed, point your PC’s web browser to the page web.whatsapp.com. Ensure that your phone has an active internet connection and keep it connected all throughout, otherwise, you will lose access to WhatsApp Web.
The web page will direct you to a window that has a QR code asking you to use WhatsApp on your phone to scan the code. To do this, launch the app on your phone and tap the three dots (menu). In the list of options that pops up, tap on WhatsApp Web. This same option can be found in the Settings page of your iPhone app.
Once you tap on the WhatsApp Web option, the app will automatically open your phone’s camera so that you can use it to scan the QR code on your computer’s web browser. After the phone scans the code, WhatsApp Web will open and right away, you can start chatting with friends using your computer. Any conversation that is currently available on the mobile app will show up on your PC.
As for the second option of setting up WhatsApp on a PC, all you need is to download and install the app on your computer. Once it’s there, launch it and you’ll see the same page that appeared on the web browser. It also includes a QR code that needs to be scanned using your phone’s camera, which is opened after hitting the WhatsApp Web option of the mobile phone app.
Setting up the app on your PC should actually take less than five minutes and you’ll be good to go. Remember to always log out of the PC app once you are done, unless you are using a personal computer that is only accessible to you. Still, it’s always advisable to stay safe by logging out since you never know who might get in contact with your so-called personal computer.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a business-only version of the app. This has been coming, especially since the Facebook-owned app has been active trying to explore on different ways it can start making money from the free chat app. As for now, the feature has been spotted in a beta version of the Windows Phone app, but the exact plans on when it will actually be released – or even if it will be released – are still unknown.
