Pokémon Go Fest is nearing and we want to know if you’re ready for it. The event will be taking place at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois. Trainers from around the world will still be able to participate.

We know it is unfair that the entire world can’t attend the Grant Park event. Fans must understand that this event is the first of its kind and it is highly likely that another will be coming to a city near you at some point.

In the meantime, you still have a part to play in this event. Pokémon Go Fest is going to draw a large crowd. To unlock some of the goodies for everyone, players all around the world need to get involved. That means you’ll be working together with trainers from every walk of the Earth.

The Challenges

“During the day, there will be three Challenge Windows in which Trainers everywhere will work alongside those in Chicago to unlock global rewards,” reads the infographic below, release by Niantic.

“During the Challenge Windows, Trainers in Grant Park will attempt to unlock perks for Pokémon GO players around the world by catching certain types of Pokémon. Each Pokémon- type will be tied to a different perk, so Trainers at the park will need to carefully choose which Pokémon they catch.”

By catching Electric-type Pokémon trainers will be able to reduce the distance required to hatch Eggs. By catching Grass-type Pokémon Stardust bonuses will increase. Fire-type catches will earn you candy bonuses while Rock-type catches will increase buddy candy. Finally, Water-type catches will yield XP bonuses and Normal-type catches will earn you more encounters.

The Reward

The reward is still a mystery but we do know that Grant Park will be the first to reap the benefits of completing phase 1. Global participants will be able to reap the benefits on July 23-24 as long as phase 2 is completed.

Will Raids Be Involved With Pokémon Go Fest?

The infographic only mentions catching Pokémon as a way to unlock the rewards. The new raid meta has not been mentioned as a part of the celebration. That being said, there is plenty of speculation going around as to what the reward will be.

Yesterday we reported that YouTube stars who have been covering the game will be working with Niantic. The majority of those YouTubers believe that Legendary Pokémon will be released as the first reward at Grant Park.

This is where the speculation of the raid feature comes in. The speculation is, the reward will be a Tier 5 Legendary raid battle that players can take part in, which will give them a chance to defeat and catch one of the Legendary Pokémon.

“If Trainers around the world catch enough Pokémon, a mystery challenge will be unveiled in Grant Park that, once completed, will unlock an extra-special bonus across the globe,” according to the infographic.

“Trainers everywhere will want to grab their friends and family to help make this the biggest celebration in Pokémon GO’s history!”

Niantic is still keeping their lips sealed when it comes to the particulars. Sources that have leaked event information in the past have also been very quiet, making this one huge mystery to players and participants.

Controlling Your Hype

If Legendary Pokémon aren’t released at Go Fest, this could be the most anticlimactic event in the games short history. It is important to remember that the game is celebrating one year of content.

Pokémon is filled with content that has yet to hit the Pokémon Go app. So, if you don’t see it now or at Go Fest, chances are it is coming in the future. The trick here, is going in without heavy expectations.

You don’t want to try and guess too much about what’s going on. If you do, the result could be less of a surprise and overcast that feeling of being surprises. We suggest you keep your hype in check.

We also suggest you stock up on Pokéballs, max out your Pokémon storage so you have room to catch as many monsters as possible and make sure you’ve got plenty of battery packs. You don’t want to run out of power when a Legendary Pokémon such as Mewtwo or Mew could appear.

Most Importantly Have Fun

Don’t let all of the hype surrounding Pokémon Go Fest and the possibilities of the reward kill your fun. Use this time to connect with your peers and fellow players. Network just incase you’ll need a little help taking down a super strong raid boss in the future.

Niantic seems to have put together an event to bring the community together. It is jumping back to the roots of Pokémon Go which happens to be going out, exploring new places and meeting new people.

We feel that it is important to keep that in mind over anything else as you get ready to celebrate the one year anniversary of the game.
