Google Maps is a well known application which is used mostly by people who travel a lot. However, it seems that this application might now come in hand to you, even if you use it in your home town, (if you’re lucky to live in a place that supports this new feature).

Google Maps has received a new feature that allows users to know how hard it is to find a free parking spot at their destination. Unfortunately, this new Google Maps feature is available only on Android devices and in 25 select cities, such as Seattle, Miami, Washington or Chicago.

At the end of this article we will offer you the full list of cities that are supported by the new feature that Google Maps has received. So, what exactly happens if you are in a city that supports this new feature and you use Google Maps on your Android device? Well the answer is simple, when you will write an address where you want to get to, the application will also show you a parking difficulty icon on the directions card, which can be ranked from easy to medium to limited.

This is an awesome feature, especially if you are about to go to a location that has “limited” parking spots. In other words, if you see that there are not many free parking spots in the location, you might consider just parking somewhere around the corner, or in the area, instead of wasting 30 minutes or even more to park your car.

Keep in mind that the application is using historical parking data, which means that the information will not be in real-time like Google’s crowd-tracking tools. However, we’re pretty sure that this feature will be improved in the near future. Below are the cities that the new feature from Google Maps supports:

  • San Francisco
  • Seattle
  • Miami
  • Minneapolis/St. Paul
  • Boston
  • Charlotte
  • Chicago
  • Detroit
  • Los Angeles
  • Atlanta
  • New York City
  • Orlando
  • Sacramento
  • Phoenix
  • Portland
  • Denver
  • Cleveland
  • Philadelphia
  • San Diego
  • Pittsburgh
  • Tampa
  • Louis
  • Dallas/Fort Worth
  • Washington
