If you own an Android device, you’ve probably already heard of Showbox, an Android app that allows users to watch movies and TV shows in HD for free. It sounds too good to be true — and, in many cases, it is. Showbox might seem like the answer to all your movie marathon and TV show bingeing habits, but it’s actually not the perfect solution. In fact, if you take a closer look, you’ll see that Showbox comes with several issues, such as the following:

It’s buggy

Showbox works for a lot of people, but there are also users who say that they’ve come across problems with the app. Some complain that the app stops working after they’ve downloaded a couple of movies, while others experience frequent crashes when using the app. These bugs aren’t really surprising since Showbox is a relatively new application and understandably has several issues that haven’t yet been fixed. However, it’s not for you if you prefer to use an app that’s clean, smooth, and free from bugs.

It’s probably not safe

We’re not saying that Showbox does download malware to users’ devices. However, considering that it’s sideloaded to your smartphone and tablet and not downloaded directly from the Google Play Store, there’s always the possibility that malware would enter your device through the Showbox app.

It’s important to note that, while the Google Play Store employs both manual and automatic software filtering, it’s not 100 percent foolproof. Depending on hackers’ skill level, an application can be loaded with viruses and other kinds of malware and still be permitted to appear on the Play Store. However, the fact that apps are checked by Google greatly increases the chance that they’re safe and free from malware.

Since the Showbox APK doesn’t go through the same level of testing, it has the potential to carry malware. This would then infect your device once you download the Showbox app, giving attackers remote access to your smartphone or tablet and/or allowing them to steal your information.

It’s not ethical

Ethics isn’t really something that a lot of internet users are interested in. This is evident in the millions of songs, movies, and videos that are illegally downloaded and streamed every month. You might argue that artists and celebrities already earn millions of dollars and won’t get poor if a couple of people enjoy their work without paying — and, generally, you do have a point. However, if you think about it on a deeper level, watching movies and TV shows without paying for them is essentially stealing someone else’s work. We’re not here to preach, though; it’s just something worth thinking about.

It’s illegal

Currently, the law on illegal streaming and downloading isn’t really crystal-clear, particularly when it comes to end-users. Nobody has been sued yet for consuming illegally sourced content since law enforcers have usually gone after the distributors. Still, if you want to stay on the right side of the law and keep yourself away from legal troubles, you’ll want to avoid using Showbox and other apps that promote illegal streaming and downloading of content.

It cannot be denied that Showbox gives you access to free entertainment. It’s up to you to decide if the savings you enjoy is worth the risk and hassle of downloading the Showbox APK.
