WhatsApp has been somewhat slow in adapting to the new notification features that Android Nougat has brought about. Fortunately, this is due to change with the arrival of WhatsApp Beta version 2.17.13.
Android Police reports that this version fixes the issues that Android 7.0 and 7.1 users have been experiencing with WhatsApp. Previous versions of the app showed only the most recent message in each conversation and had problems with incorrect unbundling of notifications. They also had issues with disappearing Quick Replies when new messages would come in, frustrating users who spend a few minutes typing long replies on their phone only to have them vanish into thin air.
Now, Android Nougat users who have WhatsApp Beta version 2.17.13 can enjoy proper notification unbundling and will see all the unread messages in each personal or group conversation. If they’re typing a Quick Reply message, they don’t have to worry about it disappearing when a new message comes in.
WhatsApp Beta version 2.17.13 users on Android Nougat will see notifications about new messages from different conversations, and they can individually reply to each when they unbundle the conversation. As before, they can see these notifications both in the notification panel and in the lock screen, although they’d need to enter their PIN, security pattern, or fingerprint to make a reply.
Version 2.17.13 also fixes WhatsApp problems in Android Wear gadgets. Now, users who have these devices can clearly view their WhatsApp messages and easily reply to them.
Unfortunately, these features aren’t available to everyone as of now. You can wait for WhatsApp to incorporate them to the stable version, or you can register for the app’s beta program to get early access to the features listed above. If you opt for the latter, you can sign up here to become a beta tester for WhatsApp.
