There are rumors that Android 7.0 Nougat is going to be released for several devices this 2017. In fact, smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6, and S6 Edge are going to receive the said update. However, the update will not only be for Android 7.0 but for Android 7.1.1 instead.

According to sources, this new update will soon be given out as soon as Samsung will release Android Nougat 7.1.1. It has been reported as well that HTC and Samsung have tried to reassure their customers that Android OS updates will be rolled out in a much sooner date than expected.

It can be recalled that HTC tech company made a statement in July 2016 that Android 7.0 Nougat will be delivered to its One M9, One A9, and HTC 10 smartphone models. However, the new Android 7.0 Nougat was just delivered for the unlocked One M9. At the same time, Huawei confirmed that they are going to roll out the Android Nougat for their Huawei P9 and Huawei Mate 8 in the first quarter of 2017.

At the same time, back in October 2016, Samsung was planning to roll out Android 7.0 for its devices, including the S6 Edge, S7 Edge, Galaxy S6, S7, and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. In fact, Samsung has also signed up their Galaxy S7 Edge and S7 for the Galaxy Beta Program for testing their Android Nougat update before being rolled out to the public.

It was reported that Samsung is going to skip the Android 7.0 and will instead roll out the Android 7.1.1 for its S7 and S7 Edge. Although this was expected to be rolled out before the end of 2016, users of such devices will be expecting the next update in 2017.

At this point, Samsung will issue a similar update for Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, S6 Edge, S6, and Galaxy Note 5 instead of rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The Android 7.0 update will be pre-loaded on the Pixel and Pixel XL devices. Currently, the Android 7.0 is available only for download on the Google Pixel C, Nexus Player, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, and Nexus 5X.

If rumors are right, the release of the latest Android update will be unveiled upon the release of the Galaxy S8 phone at an event in April 2017 in New York. Thus, Samsung will miss the usual media event to be held in Barcelona, Spain at the Mobile World Congress trade show, which will happen in February.

There were delays expected from Samsung due to the scandal that hit its Galaxy Note 7. This is because they were required to do some stringent testing after that. For this reason, they are keen at avoiding the same problems affecting their device that was ill-fated. It was reported that due to the lack of testing by Samsung because of their decision to rush their product to compete with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus from Apple.
