Initially released on December 2, 2010, this six year-old messaging and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) was developed by an Israeli company known as Viber Media but years after, it was acquired by a Japanese company, Rakuten, Inc.

This messaging app is one of the most downloaded instant messaging apps in the world and over the years, updates have been released to ensure Viber users can maximize the potential of this free messenger.

The latest Viber update was on December 22, 2016, with the version and has an update file size of 12.92MB. Along with the update comes new features that go well with the existing ones from the app. The new features include Instant Video messages which allow the user to take 30-second videos by tapping and holding the instant video icon and sending it right away by releasing the finger. Another feature is the Chat Extension where the user can find and share online content via the chat screen. Moreover, there are the redesigned emoticons for more excitement during chats and lastly, chat groups can now accommodate up to 250 chat members.

Along with the new features from the latest update, Viber users have already been enjoying previous features. These include video and voice calls, stickers of various designs and most of them are free, capability to delete or edit messages even after they have been sent, hidden chats where user can hide particular chats from the screen, call, text, photos and group chat encryptions for more security and hassle-free long distance calls.
