In 2009, WhatsApp messaging app was introduced. This multi-platform app allows users to chat, send audio and video files, images and create chat groups. Many people found this free messenger appealing that by the year 2016, more than 1 billion downloads were recorded and the number continues to rise.
However, in line with the 7th anniversary of WhatsApp, the developer announced that by the end of this year, some older mobile phones will not be supported anymore. Consequently, people who used to enjoy this messaging app will have to upgrade to a new phone or opt for other messaging apps available.
In the first announcement, support will be removed for 3GS/iOS 6, Blackberry OS and 10, Android 2.1 and 2.2, S40, Windows Phone 7 and Symbian S60. For S40, support will be removed for Nokia Asha phone series and the list include Nokia Asha 300, Nokia Asha 301, Nokia Asha 302, Nokia Asha 303, Nokia Asha 305, Nokia Asha 306, Nokia Asha 308, Nokia Asha 309, Nokia Asha 310 and Nokia Asha 311, among others.
But before you get disappointed, WhatsApp, Inc. made another announcement that support for some phones on the list will still continue until the end of June 2017. That said, you can still download WhatsApp for your Nokia Asha 300 series phone.
Downloading the app is not the same with the process used for Android phones where download is done via the Play Store. While you can download WhatsApp for Nokia Asha series from available sources, ensure that you only download from trusted ones.
