Rumor has it that Samsung’s new tablet will be shown during CES 2017 which happens between 5-8 January 2017 while other are aiming for the later MWC 2017 which takes place from February the 27th until March the 2nd. The device can be compared with the current Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 as we can only speculate the hardware specs of the future Tab S3 despite the fact that its design still remains unknown.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has two size variants. The 8-inch model has a thin design measuring 198.6×134.8×5.6 mm similar to Samsung’s smartphone division. The more expensive version comes equipped with a 9.7-inch screen measuring 237.3x169x5.6 mm.

Design-wise, Samsung will probably not change anything in its future Tab S3 device. Thinner bezels and a different positioned main camera might be the only changes regarding its display.

Hardware and Display

The Galaxy Tab S2 is still packing a punch on the market sporting a Exynos 5433 chip along with a Mali-T760 GPU. The more powerful version of the tablet is powered by a Snapdragon 652 paired with Adreno’s 510 GPU which can rival the Snapdragon 810. Both devices are packing 3GB of RAM with storage options that comprise of 32GB and 65GB versions both expandable by microSD.

Display-wise the two series are to be found with 8 inch and 9.7 versions  with the same 1536 x 2048 resolution with AMOLED screens.

The Galaxy Tab S3 should have the Snapdragon 652 chip on all its versions with 4GB of RAM with the same internal storage options as the previous model. As for the Display, it should expect no modifications from the highly praised AMOLED display encountered in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 camera specs include a 8MP back snapper which supports autofocus and is able to record at 1440p@30fps. The selfie camera has 2.1 MP. The new Tab S3 should have the same camera specs as tablet cameras aren’t really used at all aside from voice chatting and random photos.

Battery and Software

The lower end version of the Samsung Tab 2 is powered by a 4.000mAh battery while the more powerful version packs a whopping 5870mAh one. The Galaxy Tab S3 should have the same battery configurations.

Software-wise Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 comes with Android Lollipop and is eligible for an upgrade to Android Marshmallow. On the other hand however the Tab S3 is expected to come with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the factory.

As the tablet market is experiencing drops in sales from quarter to quarter, the Galaxy Tab S3 series will most likely not feature any noticeable upgrades from its predecessor. The only slight differences will be an upgraded OS and some minor adjustments to the design.
