With all the new features implemented in the latest version of Google’s Android operating system, it’s no wonder that every smartphone owner wants to get in on the Nougat experience.

However, that’s just not how thing go, and smartphones have to wait until it’s their turn to receive the update. That is, of course, if their turn ever comes. Luckily enough, not all devices have to play by the rules.

While the official firmware release is something everyone desires, thoughtful developers look after their own in the Android community and provide custom ROMs that do a terrific job in supplementing the lack of an official release.

Such is now the case of LG Nexus 4. The device can finally get a taste of the newest Google software thanks to a new custom ROM which based on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat firmware. If you’re anxious to try out the custom ROM, which goes by the name of Resurrection Remix, we provide you with a fast and simple guide on how to get it running on your own device.

Keep in mind that flashing a custom ROM means that you are taking on the risks by your own accord and that you are voiding the remainder of your handset’s warranty (if it still has one).

Before you can start installing the ROM, make sure your device has more than half of its total battery available, and back up all important data because your phone’s memory will get wiped. Additionally, download the latest USB drivers for the Nexus 4 and enable USB debugging from Settings.

Last but not least, get a recovery tool such as TWRP to make sure your phone will be OK if something goes south during installation. It goes without saying that your handset has to be rooted for this to work.

To install the custom ROM, follow these simple steps:

  • Download the custom ROM into your phone’s local memory;
  • Reboot the phone into recovery mode by holding down the Power, Home and Volume Up buttons at the same time while the device is turned off;
  • Perform both a cache and a Dalvik cache wipe from the boot menu’s advanced section;
  • Use the Install Zip from SD card option to get the process going;
  • Select the downloaded ROM from its location on the phone and wait for it to install, then reboot the device.
