As we’ve told you yesterday, the Pokémon Go players were expecting some details regarding the new Pokémon and it seems that Niantic has finally released some official information about them.

It seems that some of the Gen 2 Pokémon are now making their way to the game, but they will be released gradually. The bad news is that you will not be able to catch the first ones in the wild. Instead, you will need to hatch them from an egg that you will be able to get from a Pokestop.

Here are some details that Niantic has revealed:

  • This addition brings Togepi, Pichu, and “select” (but undisclosed) Pokémon originally from Pokémon Gold/Silver;
  • There’s going to be a special edition Pikachu — “wearing a festive hat” (because, as any Valve fan knows, there’s little that can’t be solved with hats) — that players can catch. It’ll appear from now until December 29th at 11 am PST and will apparently “appear in large quantities during this period”.

Now, you are probably asking yourself why Niantic has decided to not allow the players catch these new Pokémon. Well, this is surely a way to lure some players back to the game, as they will be able to get a Gen 2 Pokémon without having to struggle too much.

At the same time, let’s not forget that now it is quite cold outside and there are not many gamers who will want to go for a walk just to catch the new Pokémon.

The gamers will be able to hatch one egg at a time, but they also spend real money in order to be able to hatch more eggs at the same time. Eggs are hatched once you place them in an incubator and walk a certain distance (unfortunately, you will still need to get outside)

Here is a video with some of the Gen 2 Pokémon that you can get from the hatched eggs:
