Back in October, Motorola has announced that the Moto G4 and G4 Plus will receive the Nougat update soon. Today, the company has announced on its India website that the update has started rolling out to users across the country and it arrived as version NPJ25.93-11.

Android 7.0 Nougat, which rolls out as version NPJ25.93-11 bumped the security level to November 1 and owners of the Moto G4 Plus and Moto G4 from India should see the new OTA (over-the-air) notification in the next days.

If the notification message won’t appear soon, users will manually search for the software by selecting the Settings icon from the apps menu, then “About phone”, “System updates” and “Yes, I’m in”. The software will then start downloading and at the end, users will tap on “Install now” and wait until Nougat will finish installing. The device will re-start automatically and will run on the new operating system.

The update brings exclusive Moto experiences, such as a new Moto action: Swipe to shrink the screen and fingerprint sensor for screen lock (Moto G4 Plus only), which is accessed from Settings > Security > screen lock gear icon. The rest of major changes in Nougat are:

  • Multi-window view (two apps will run side by side);
  • Quick switch between apps by double tapping the overview/recent apps button;
  • Work mode toggle for turning on/off the device’s work apps and related notifications;
  • Data saver will reduce mobile data usage;
  • Doze on the go – the improved version of Doze mode, which will kick into action even if the user is on the move;
  • Notification direct reply. Users will swipe the status bar down and they’ll tap “Reply” on the message notification;

  • Bundled notifications. Multiple notifications from the same app will be grouped together and they will be shown in a single notification;
  • Custom quick settings, to find easier commonly used settings;
  • Quick settings bar at the top of the notification shade, to easily access quick settings when reading alerts;
  • Settings suggestions;
  • Lock screen wallpaper;
  • Improved system backup coverage;
  • New and updated emoji etc.
