The first PlayStation official mobile app was launched in 2013, and its features allowed gamers to keep up in touch with their friends, be up-to-date with the latest news and buy new games. Last December was introduced a new app dedicated to messaging between PS players within the network and the third app for Android and iOS, Communities, helps gamers find teammates with similar interests and game preferences, by joining groups.
Sony’s John Koller said that “PlayStation Communities are places where you can find players who have similar interests and preferences,” adding that “Within a Community, you can join parties and launch into games with other Community members, or talk about your shared interests. For instance, if you’re having trouble finding players to tackle Destiny’s newest raid, Wrath of the Machine, a Destiny community may help you fill out your fireteam.”
So, Communities will be similar to themed forums where players will chat about games they like, team up in battles and succeed in their missions etc. The application will allow gamers to view community profiles, join communities, see the list of groups they are a member of, and who else has joined, discover other communities and post content to the community wall. Also, based on previously played games and highlights which communities are trending, Communities app will offer recommendations.
PS 4 users will be notified when someone will respond to their comments, when they will be tagged in other users’ messages and it will be quite fun to communicate with people with the same interests and who will answer your questions. Sony will also update both the PlayStation app and PlayStation Messages app, so that they will be able to interact seamlessly with the new Communities app.
