The Moto G3 or known as Moto 3rd Generation was launched in July of last year. This device has been packed with Android Lollipop out of the box. In fact, it received the Marshmallow update later on. Motorola even announced that this device was their best sold smartphone so far.
However, there were rumors circulating the Internet regarding the release of the Android 7.0 Nougat update. Many have been waiting for this to come for Moto devices. There were even a list of Moto devices that are scheduled to receive the said update.
Nevertheless, Moto G3 has not been on the list of devices from Motorola. The fact that Google said that it will release the Nougat update sometime in August or September 2016, Motorola should have gotten the source code for Nougat by that time.
For the moment, Motorola will begin rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat for a number of smartphones come first quarter of 2017. The only way for Moto G3 to get a taste of the Nougat update is to do it unofficially by rooting or installing custom firmware version of Android 7.0.
It can be recalled that Moto G 3rd generation was considered to have a good developer support and will soon get the Nougat update in 2016. This has been referred to happen after the source code of the modified version of Android N will be shared via custom updates. The delay might have been due to compatibility issues regarding the processor, which has been lower than the standard specs.
If you have purchased the Moto G3 sometime last year, it might be safe to say that for the moment, there are no news regarding an upcoming update for Android 7.0 Nougat. Perhaps if Motorola wants it to happen, this may come no later than the second quarter of 2017.
