Fallout 4 has been an intensely anticipated release ever since the launch of its predecessor in the Fallout series, Fallout New Vegas. The release of Fallout 4 has been received with high praise and is currently recognized as one of the best RPG games ever released.

One of the most popular aspects of the Fallout series is mods. Players love to mod their game and it has long been a PC only feature. But as of recently the consoles are stepping up, with the announcement of mods becoming available for Xbox and PlayStation.

While Xbox has joined the mod party, PlayStation is still working on it, with PS players eagerly awaiting news about the feature. The PS4 modding system has been already announced, the only thing remaining being implementation.

For anyone that isn’t accustomed to mods, the term is short for modifications. Mods help players enhance their game experience and allow them to customize the game in a number of ways, specific to each individual mod. There are mods for pretty much any aspect of the game imaginable, with a wide variety to choose from. Mods can be either cosmetic or game-impacting, or both. The popularity of mods is tied to players wanting to make their game look and feel as they want it to, changing the developer’s vision where they do not agree or just want something new. Some examples of mods and how they function are clothes changing mods, weapon changing mods, dialogue option mods or GPS mods.

There is even something called the Fallout 4 Creation Kit, which allows players to get and install mods even easier. The game’s developer, Bethesda, is known for making games that allow heavy modding, such as Skyrim, the latest installment in The Elder Scrolls franchise.
