Last year, top mobile device manufacturers have released many flagships that were purchased by millions of people who live on all continents. Samsung has done a good job with the Galaxy S6, which came with a completely new design and upgraded specs, while Google has assigned LG to build the Nexus 5X mid-tier variant.
Below, we’ll compare the two devices and in case you’re interested in buying a premium smartphone released in 2015, we’re here to help you take the best decision.
Designs and Displays
The Nexus 5X has a matte plastic back that’s slightly curved on the edges and has a protruding circular rear camera with a fingerprint scanner below. It measures 147 x 72.6 x 7.9 mm, it weights 136 grams and it has a 5.2-inch IPS LCD screen with a Full HD resolution.
The Galaxy S6 has a beautiful glass back and a metal frame, but the fingerprint scanner hasn’t changed its place, being found in the same oval home button. This phone is slightly smaller and thinner, measuring 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8 mm, but because of the glass rear panel, it’s a bit heavier, weighting 138 grams.
Samsung has used its proprietary Exynos 7420 Octa chipset that supported a very powerful octa-core (4×2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 & 4×1.5 GHz Cortex-A53) processor and it coupled it with a Mali-T760MP8 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The microSD card slot was removed, but the device was released in three variants of internal storage: 32/64/128 GB.
The Nexus 5X was updated to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS, but it’s has a weaker internal configuration: a Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 chipset, a hexa-core (4×1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 & 2×1.8 GHz Cortex-A57) processor, an Adreno 418 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Also, its internal memory can’t be expanded and the two variants offer capacities of 16GB and 32GB.
The Galaxy S6 has a primary camera of 16 MP, with an f/1.9 aperture, OIS, autofocus and LED flash, and a secondary camera of 5 MP with the same optics. The Nexus 5X has a 12.3 MP rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture, laser autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash and a secondary camera of 5MP, also with an aperture of f/2.0.
The Galaxy S6 has a smaller battery of 2550 mAh, which is outperformed by the 2770 mAh battery of the Nexus 5X.
