It’s been more than two years since Rockstar Games last released a video game, and that was Grand Theft Auto V (one of the company’s other popular video game series). This coming 2017, a new addition to the equally popular Red Dead series will be launched and its trailer was just released recently. Red Dead Redemption 2, just like all the other games in the series, is a western adventure and will be available for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One. While we know these details, what other information do we know about it?
It’s a sequel
The original Red Dead Redemption was released in 2010 and received critical acclaim. That’s a lot of pressure for the sequel to live up to. The first installation featured the main character John Marston, a former outlaw, and followed his journey of hunting down the people he once called friends. The trailer doesn’t reveal any characters, just a voice declaring to run and never look back.
It will be made available to PlayStation users first
A PlayStation blog confirmed that users of PS4 will get to choose online content for Red Dead Redemption 2. Since the game will also be made available for Xbox One players, this most likely means PS4 users get exclusive first access.
It may be available as an online multiplayer platform
GTA Online is the multiplayer version of Grand Theft Auto V. In a lawsuit filed by former Rockstar president Leslie Benzies, he claims that revenue from microtransactions on GTA Online hovers around half a billion. This is quite a lot of money and it would no doubt interest Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company. In fact, the company has registered domains for Red Dead Online, as reported by Game Spot.
Although there are still popular single-player games, the financial lure of an online multiplayer world is just too strong. As they always say, you have to adapt in order to be successful in business. But delivering online content is just one thing, Red Dead Redemption 2 also needs to be able to satisfy users with more than just its graphics. As we continue to wait for updates on this game, the trailer is here to get us all excited.
