New reports about the next game in the popular life simulation series seem to suggest that The Sims 5 has been temporarily delayed by the developers. According to this new information, Maxis and The Sims Studios are currently placing all of their focus on creating more content for The Sims 4.

The Sims 4 is due to receive a new expansion DLC next month called “City Living” which will send players to the city for a new start; the city will be expensive but players can upgrade over time as they move into new apartments and customize it more. It’s also been confirmed that several new career paths will be available to players including the possibility to work in social media for the first time in the history of The Sims.

This new information suggests that the developers are intending to release several other large expansions for The Sims 4 and that it will have a longer life-cycle than originally anticipated. The Sims usually has a 4/5 year gap between games and The Sims 4 was released in 2013; if the developers intend to follow this then the next game would be released sometime in 2017 or 2018.

As the developers are still focused on The Sims 4, they have limited time to spend on the next game in the series. Instead of 2018, it’s possible that the game will be delayed to 2019 or a 2020 release which would co-inside with some rumors suggesting it will be released along-side the next console generation in 2020.

The future of the The Sims is still uncertain right now but the fact that the developers are still dedicated to the previous game is certainly positive.
