Google and Apple are two of the best mobile phone manufacturers in the world. It is no surprise when you hear that their devices are among the best released each year, and large numbers of fans eagerly anticipate the release of the newest version of device from both companies. In this article we shall take a look at Apple’s iPhone 7 and how it does when compared to Google Pixel, one of its top competitors released by the Android developer.

Design and Construction

Apple used aluminum to construct this device, which is considered of premium quality, while Pixel is made out of aluminum and glass.

They have implemented waterproof capabilities, and the IP67 rating means that users can submerge their phones entirely. Google’s device is also waterproof, but of a lower rating which doesn’t allow it to be submerged.

The iPhone 7 comes with a fingerprint sensor placed on the Home button which allows you to set up a finger scan as the authentication method when opening the device, replacing the more traditional pin code or pattern. Google Pixel feature a similar fingerprint scanner but on the back of the device.

Apple keeps the design minimal, removing the audio jack completely, and the overall build of the device is small and slim but also light without feeling cheap. You won’t get a cheap feel from the Google device either, but it comes in a bigger size.

The specifications of the iPhone 7 are 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm, with a total size of 138 g.  There also multiple color variations for the iPhone 7, which are black, jet black, gold, rose gold and silver. For the Pixel, we have 143.8 x 69.5 x 8.6 mm measurements, and the available colors are blue, black and silver.

Due to the small size of the device, the screen is also relatively small, with only 4.7 inches to spare. The display uses LCD technology and offers a maximum resolution of 1334 x 750, with additional modern features such as 3D Touch, which allows users to access different functions on their screens based on the force they apply to the screen when they touch it. Pixel’s display is bigger and better with a max resolution of 1920 x 1080, using the AMOLED technology.

The front panel for both devices hosts a high quality 12 MP lens that uses OIS and an autofocus based on phase detection, as well as a quad-LED flash unit.

The hardware specifications for the iPhone 7 are 3 GB of RAM and a collaboration between a main quad core processor (Apple’s A10  chip) and a co-processor branded M10, specializing in motion.

There is no option for adding extra storage space through an SD card, but users will be able to use the included 32, 128 or 256 GB of storage for your personal needs. Google Pixel on the other hand uses only 32 and 128 GB model drives and a quad core processor with support from 4 GM of RAM for the Snapdragon chip.

The battery isn’t that great on the iPhone, with only 1960 mAh available, but Pixel on the other hand has a great 2770 mAh piece which lasts for a long time.

The operating system for all iPhones is iOS, and iPhone 7 comes with iOS 10, which includes Siri, the digital assistant, as well as an array of other useful features. If your other devices (i.e. tablet, laptop, etc.) are Apple products, acquiring an iPhone will make it easier to communicate between all platforms and sync your devices. Google Pixel runs Android 7.1 Nougat and comes with its own Google Assistant feature that works in a similar way Siri does for Apple devices.

The Apple device costs around 799 GBP while the Nexus replacement will cost you around 659 GPB. These prices are for the maximum storage versions, both devices charging 599 pounds for the standard version.

Looking at all the specifications, it is easy to see that in terms of display and resolution, the Pixel wins without a problem,  and the same goes for RAM, but the iPhone comes with more advantageous physical elements such as its size or waterproof rating, not to mention display capabilities and options for storage capacity.
