When it comes to rolling out Android updates, Lenovo isn’t exactly one of the most punctual OEMs. However, it seems that the company is striving to change this reputation by releasing the Nougat update earlier than expected.

The Chinese company has not revealed exactly when it would release Android Nougat update for its devices, but it will reportedly do so this October or at least before the year ends. Considering that we’re already halfway through October, it’s highly likely that the rollout would take place in November or December.

Of course, there’s always a possibility that Lenovo would repeat the rollout schedule that it followed for last year’s Android Marshmallow. Lenovo devices received Marshmallow five to nine months after the official release of the update; if this happens with Nougat, Lenovo users will probably get the update in the first or second quarter of next year.

Lenovo also has not revealed which models will get Android Nougat. It’s widely believed that the update will be rolled out to the Lenovo Vibe K4 Note and Lenovo Vibe K5 Note, both of which were released in January this year. Some experts say that the Lenovo Vibe P1, Vibe X3, and Vibe S1 Lite will also get the update, along with the Lenovo ZUK Z2, Z2 Pro, Vibe Phab 2, Phab 2 Plus, and Phab 2 Pro.

Just like with other manufacturers, it’s likely that there would be several Lenovo models that would not receive the Nougat update. One of these is the Lenovo ZUK Z1, which is built with the Snapdragon 801 processor. There are reports that devices with Snapdragon 800 and Snapdragon 801 are not eligible to get Nougat since these processors are incompatible with the update’s Vulcan API. If this turns out to be true, we can scratch the ZUK Z1 off the list of devices that will receive Nougat.

It’s not clear if the Lenovo K3 Note will get Android Nougat or not. However, even if it wouldn’t receive the update, K3 Note owners don’t have to worry since they can install Nougat through custom ROM. Find out how to download and install a custom ROM here.
