A list has already been released on what Samsung smartphones will be getting the latest OS for Android phones: Android 7.0 Nougat. What phones will make the cut and what devices will be left out of the picture?
Reports say that the controversial list included some recent flagship models from the S and Note series as well as other edge devices. Some of the devices in the J series and the popular A series are said to also be getting the latest update.
With how it is going and recently updated Nexus 6, it seems that developments are in the up and up. The Android 7.0 Nougat will come with the packaged Pixel handsets and Motorola has also announced the updates some of its devices are receiving in the coming months.
As for the question on what models in the S flagship will be treated with the update, the confirmed list includes Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, among others. Other models are Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge and S6 Plus.
Notably omitted from the list are the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note edge which are not really that old. Devices that are said to be qualified to get an update have been available in the market for two years and not earlier than this time period. But still, no one can really pinpoint the criteria for choosing which gets an update or not.
The Galaxy S7, for one is one of the most popular smartphones and was just released in March yet, it came with Marshmallow 6.0. When the latest Android OS was released in August, users were excited in knowing if their Samsung devices will be getting the update, the S7 included. Rumors about testing the Grace UX along with Nougat on the S7 and S7 edge also surfaced when it was seen on a benchmark website. Another rumor also came out that testing of the Android N with the Galaxy Samsung S7 model was being done in Poland.
But knowing that Samsung has been known to release its first roll outs of updates in Europe before in the U.S., users in America might have to wait a little while. Moreover, it was just recently when Samsung Galaxy S7 gets Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow security update with new fixes.
