Owners of the Nexus 6 can now rejoice as an over-the-air (OTA) update for Android 7.0 Nougat is now available for their device. For the past 5 weeks, many Android users were already getting the update, while owners of the Nexus 6 model were left disappointed and hoping that they too could soon enjoy the latest features that comes with the 7.0 Nougat upgrade. Rumor has it that the reason for the delay was due to battery issues.

If you have not received the OTA notice yet, you can try to manually download the flashable OTA file or the Android 7.0 Nougat factory image. For Nexus 6, the update is NBD90Z and you need to have at least 860 MB free storage space.

The 7.0 Nougat OTA update is also available for the following Nexus devices: Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 9 LTE. This sadly means that the possibility of Nexus 5 handsets to receive an OS software still seems grim.

One of the great features that Nexus 6 users can now enjoy with the latest Nougat

upgrade is a split screen mode, where two applications can be viewed side-by-side on the screen. This is really useful when you need to copy or compare notes. It is available in landscape and portrait modes, but the windows can be resized only in portrait mode.

You can also now instantly shift between two of the most recent apps you used by simply double tapping the overview button. Another neat upgrade is how notifications appear and the Quick Reply option. With this feature, you can immediately send a reply from the notification window without having to open the messaging app. You can also delete, share, and archive directly from the notification box. These improvements make multitasking on your device even easier.

Android 7.0 Nougat also gives your handset better GPU control because it offers support for the Vulkan 3D rendering API.

With all these neat new features, Nexus 6 owners are definitely happier. As for Nexus 5 users, you can try downloading a custom ROM. Check out this previous article to know more.
