Many people are very active on Facebook at work and this is counterproductive because it distracts them and makes them neglect their daily tasks. Facebook users with many friends are curious what they’re up to and keep scrolling down their News Feed to see what others have posted. Facebook has thought about an enterprise tool called Workplace that now it’s available for companies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations and which offers employees the possibility to have productive discussions.
Back in January 2015, Facebook has released Facebook at Work and it was beta tested for months, by 1,000 companies from all over the world. Much later, the developers have decided to change the name of this tool to Workplace, and this was an inspired move that help Facebook grow its user base. “We’ve been amazed by the breadth of organizations who’ve embraced Workplace – from a shipping company that can now connect with their ship crews using Live video, to a bank that now uses Workplace instead of fax machines and newsletters to share updates with its distributed bank branches,” has posted Facebook on newsroom.fb.com.
Workplace was officially launched in London and it offers premium features such as live video streaming and single-sign on support. Users have unlimited media storage and access to G Suite, Okta, OneLogin, Ping, and Windows Azure AD, as the tool integrates with them. In order to use this tool, clients will pay between $1 and $3 per user every month, but Workplace will be free for educational institutions and nonprofits.
The Workplace account will be separate from the user’s personal account and it will visible only to co-workers. Also, it offers a Work Chat app that can be downloaded for iOS and Android devices, so employees can discuss work problems without leaving their desks. In addition, they can post about their work and check their colleagues’ updates.
Thanks to Multi-Company Groups feature, users will be able to connect with people who work for other companies, but this feature is not yet available.
