If you’re a fan of the Grand Theft Auto video game franchise, you’re probably looking forward to the release of the next installment, GTA VI. No one’s really sure when it would be made available, although there are rumors that it would come out in the next few years.

Some of these reports say that the game will be released in 2020, but most of them point out that GTA VI will most likely be released in 2018. This comes from the fact that Rockstar Games, which develops and publishes the GTA series, has released the last two installments with a five-year gap between each of them. Grand Theft Auto IV was made available in 2008, while Grand Theft Auto V was released in 2013. If Rockstar continues to follow this pattern, the sixth installment of the game might come out in 2018.

According to these reports, Rockstar is willing to extend the delay between the fifth and sixth installments of GTA because it’s still monitoring the video gaming landscape. This isn’t really surprising since the industry is expected to go through several major changes in the coming years: Microsoft and Sony are due to release new Xbox and PlayStation consoles soon, and virtual reality is set to dominate the field in the near future.

Of course, it’s no secret that the developer is currently focused on creating DLC packs for GTA V since the game is bringing huge sales. This might also be the reason why development for GTA VI has been placed on the back burner.

It’s important to note, though, that all of these release date rumors must be taken with a grain of salt. Rockstar Games has not made an official announcement about the exact release date of GTA VI and has not even given clues as to the game’s development timeline.

There have been reports that the developer will unveil GTA VI in E3 2017, so we might get some news about the game’s sixth installment by that time.
