iOS users who have installed Google Maps to get directions or real-time traffic conditions while traveling have just received a new update. Version 4.23.0 of this application has brought changes in design, a new feature called Area of Interest and it allows users to add multiple destinations.

Google has introduced descriptions that offer users detailed information about places that interest them. Therefore, users will be informed about the atmosphere from that place and the amenities available there. In addition, while they’re reviewing places, users are able to upload photos. This feature is very useful for travelers who will analyze their travel route better while getting visual reference.

Some small changes have been made to the two widgets: Nearby Transit and Travel Times. The former indicates nearby public transport, while the other allows users to see live travel time estimation to their destination. This estimation depends on real-time traffic, so if there are accidents, construction, and road closures, Maps will recalculate your route and will give you the estimated travel times.

Google Maps v4.23.0 for iOS comes with iOS 10 optimizations, as well. The update will be available over-the-air, which means that it will arrive in phases, but users who don’t want to wait to receive it on their devices can manually look for it in the App Store. It weighs in at 67.7MB and it also contains regular bug fixes and performance improvements.

The application was released in February 2005 and it became available in the App Store on December 13, 2012, after almost one year earlier, Apple has announced that it will replace Google Maps with its own maps service and this has happened in iOS 6. Google Maps is free to use and its features include: Google Moon, Google Mars, Google Sky, Google Ride Finder, Google Traffic, Google Transit, Google biking directions, Google My Maps, Google Street View, Google Underwater Street View etc.
