Two phones sold per second in under 72 hours—this is a record that the Mi phone company can brag about. During the festive sales of respective online retailers in India, Xiaomi sold more than 500,000 phones between October 01 and 03. The smartphones under the Redmi series, as well as Xiaomi accessories, were flying off shelves in less than 3 days.

The happy phone company claims this is an industry first and stated that most of its products were out of stock as of the moment. They are working with Foxconn so they can locally manufacture more smartphones in time for another sale event before Diwali.

Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, and Tata Cliq had their respective festive sales during the first three days of October, and buyers in India took advantage of these events to grab the hottest smartphones and accessories from Xiaomi. During the Great Indian Festival sale on Amazon, 4 of its top 6 selling electronic products were Xiaomi devices, with the Redmi Note 3 as the best-selling smartphone. At the Big Billion Days Sale on Flipkart, the Redmi 3S (together with the Redmi 3S Prime) was the top selling product. The Redmi Note 3 is currently the highest shipped smartphone in any given quarter in India’s online market.

Xiaomi entered India in 2014 and has shown incredible growth since then. It is currently the third largest smartphone brand in 30 major cities in India. In October last year, it sold 500,000 units in 30 days. This year, they achieved that in just 3 days.

The unit isn’t currently available in the United States. If you want to know why the Redmi Note 3 and other Xiaomi phones are creating such a hype in India, check out this article which compares two of the most popular smartphones.
