Fans of the Call of Duty franchise have been wondering about the future of the series and about the popular Black Ops sub-series that’s become one of the best series within the Call of Duty franchise. It’s uncertain when the next Black Ops game will be released but according to an email leak from Activision, the game is already in development.
The email leak was quite some time ago and it titles Black Ops 4 as “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Retribution”. It’s still unknown if this is the name of the upcoming game but it certainly suggests that Treyarch intend to make this game a direst sequel to the previous game or Black Ops 4 will otherwise be focused around revenge or justice. The name doesn’t give a very clear image of what to expect and it’s also possible that the developer will change this before launch.
Treyarch have previously stated that they were looking into the possibility of another game but have since fallen silent on the topic. It’s thought that once Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has been released this November, Activition will begin talking about the next game in the franchise.
Call of Duty: Black Ops games are usually released on a two year cycle and considering the last games was released in 2015, it’s almost time for a new game to be released. Assuming that Treyarch plans to follow this tradition, players should expect to see a new game being released by 2018.
Gamers shouldn’t expect to see any news about the next game in the Call of Duty franchise for several months at least; Activision usually keeps this information a secret until the first trailer is released which means that players could be left waiting until E3 2017.
