If your Motorola device is a Moto G4, or if it belongs to the Moto Z series, then the answer is “Yes”.
A Motorola spokesperson has confirmed with Android community site Droid-Life that these phones will get the Android Nougat update in the fourth quarter of 2016. This is good news to Motorola fans considering that Q4 will begin in a few days, although it’s highly likely that the update will arrive in the latter part of October or even as late as December.
Specifically, the Nougat update will be available to the Moto Z, Moto Z Force, and Moto Z Play models. Although the Moto G4 is already a sure-in for the update, it’s not yet clear whether it would also be rolled out for the Moto G4 Plus and the Moto G4 Play (though it’s highly likely that these models would receive Nougat).
Lenovo-owned Motorola has not yet commented about its other devices, including the Moto X Pure Edition and those that belong to the Moto G series. The company assured Droid-Life that it will announce its upgrade plans for its other products as well as the update timeline once it’s ready.
The devices in the Moto Z series are set to be available globally, although they haven’t yet reached all parts of the world. In India, for example, the devices will be launched in October, although it’s not exactly clear which model will be unveiled during the launch event.
Those who already own a Moto G4 or a device in the Moto Z family can periodically check their phone notifications to see the Android Nougat OTA update when it becomes available. They can also check the software upgrade page in Motorola’s global portal site every now and then to find out when their device could get the Nougat update.
