WhatsApp is an extremely popular messaging app and is available for Android, Blackberry, iOS, Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian, Windows 10 Mobile and Windows Phone. However, the bad news for Blackberry, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian users, the app won’t be working on these devices at the end of 2016.
Thus, to use the app, you’ll have to purchase one of the other phones on the list.
Developers have also released a WhatsApp Desktop application, which you can install and use on your computer.
In order to use this desktop application, you’ll still need a mobile phone that has WhatsApp installed. Why? The mobile device is a gateway, dealing with all the incoming and continuous messages you get.
If you want to download and use the desktop version, be sure you go to whatsapp.com/download. You’ll see a button for “Download for Windows.” When it’s done downloading, you must run the .exe file to install the program. Once that’s complete, you have to open the WhatsApp Desktop Application on your computer.
There will also be a QR Code that you must scan using your mobile device. In order to scan this code, open WhatsApp on your smartphone, tap the option button and hit the “WhatsApp Web” feature. Use the rear camera to scan the code.
Once done, you’ll be logged into your account through the WhatsApp Desktop Application. Your smartphone must stay linked to the Internet, as the desktop app won’t work without it.
