The CEO of Niantic has recently confirmed a popular fan theory about the creation of Pokemon Go; in an interview at Techcunch, John Hanke has revealed that the idea for the game came from the 2014 April Fools joke that was run through Google Maps. The prank added Pokemon to Google Maps and attracted quite a bit of attention from the media and from gamers.
Niantic approached the Pokemon Company about creating the game in 2014 and they started developing the game that year. It took roughly two years to create the hit mobile game which has taken the world by storm.
During the interview, Hanke also revealed that legendary Pokemon would be coming to the game very soon and that the company is planning to hold special events in the future. He hinted that players can expect to see new Pokemon being introduced into the game with special events that will take place around the world.
