Sony has released its Xperia XA handset in June 2016 while the Xperia XZ has just been revealed a few days ago. Today we will compare these two handsets and let you device which one of them suits your needs better.


The Xperia XA measures 143.6×66.8×7.9mm and weights 137.4 grams. It has a plastic rear cover, a power button placed on the side with built-in fingerprint sensor, and the camera sits in the upper left corner. On the other hand, the Xperia XZ is thicker and heavier as it measures 146x72x8.1mm and weights 161 grams. It has a high purity ALKALEIDO metal back that’s curved on the sides, but the screen is flat.


The Xperia XA has a curved IPS LCD display of 5-inch that supports a resolution of 1280×720 pixels at 294 ppi. The Xperia XZ comes with a bigger IPS LCD display of 5.2-inch that supports a higher resolution of 1920×1080 pixels at 424 ppi.

Processors, Graphics Cards & RAM

The Xperia XA features a Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 chipset, a quad-core Cortex A53 CPU clocked at 2.0GHz and a quad-core Cortex A53 CPU clocked at 1.0GHz, a Mali-T860MP2 graphics card and 2GB of RAM. The Xperia XZ has a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 chipset, a dual-core Kryo CPU clocked at 1.6GHz and a dual-core Kryo CPU clocked at 2.15GHz, an Adreno 530 graphics card and 3GB of RAM.


The Xperia XA has been released with an internal storage of 16GB, but you can expand it up to 256GB using a microSD card. The Xperia XZ comes in two internal storage variants of 32GB and 64GB which you can expand up to 256GB, as well.


The Xperia XA sports a primary camera of 13MP that features LED flash, phase detection autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, HDR, panorama, face detection and a secondary camera of 8MP. The Xperia XZ has a better primary camera of 23MP that features phase detection and laser autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, HDR, panorama, geo-tagging, touch focus and a secondary camera of 13MP.


Both devices come with non-removable batteries, but the one that the Xperia XA features has 2300 mAh and it is weaker than the 2900 mAh battery that’s found on the Xperia XZ.
