The Android version of Skype was updated and it gained support for Skype bots. If you don’t know what Skype Bots are, Microsoft is describing them as “artificially intelligent programs that can do many useful things like search for news, summarize web pages, play games, and more.” Skype Bots were presented at this year’s Build and they’re slowly entering users’ lives.
According to the changelog of the Skype app update for Android, new Skype Bots will make users’ lives easier, more productive, and fun, but the update contains also various other fixes and improvements. Skype bots won’t appear out of the sudden, as they will need to be added to the contacts list, and this is how you can do it:
– Go to the Recents tab and tap the action button, then the bot icon;
– Head to the Contacts tab and tap Add contacts. After that, select the Bots icon.
– Now, you will have the possibility to add bots by choosing from the list. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, use the search field.
– After doing this, you will see Skype bots in the Contacts lists and you will just chat with them like you normally do with a real person.
You shouldn’t have great expectations from Skype Bots, as they’re not very smart, but they will be improved in the future. They’re useful and people need them to interact with online services, while some are really entertaining (Spock and Murphy).

We remind you that Skype bots are now available in Skype app for Windows and Mac, Web and iOS, and Skype Preview app for Windows 10 devices, but only in countries such as the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, India, New Zealand and Singapore. The latest version of Skype for Android can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
