Despite the recent comments from Bethesda about The Elder Scrolls 6, fans are are desperately looking for a release date for this highly anticipated game.
Bethesda has confirmed that they are not currently developing the next game in the The Elder Scrolls series; the company has revealed that while they certainly have ideas for the game, they are currently working on several new projects which have yet to be revealed. In an interview with PC Gamer Pete Hines, the Vice President of PR and Marketing, explained that the team actually have two games to complete before they begin work on TES6.
While Bethesda has certainly made it clear that they’re not actively working on TES6, rumors about the upcoming RPG are still growing.
According to rumors, the game will integrate VR and may potentially even be a VR exclusive; this rumor first emerged after E3 2016 in June when Bethesda revealed that they were developing Fallout 4 VR support. This news would not be a huge surprise to fans considering that more developers are looking to VR and providing support to their games for it.
The biggest uncertainty now is the potential release date for the game as it no longer fits the expected timeline for the TES series. Previously, the series has been released with 4/5 year gaps between them which would have marked 2017 for the release of TES6.
Bethesda have commented that it will take several years before The Elder Scrolls 6 is released; based on the release of two other TES games it’s possible the next main game will be released around 2020.
The Elder Scrolls Online was released in 2014 and The Elder Scrolls: Legends is due for release in 2016; this would label the next TES6 for a 2018-2020 release date.
While this can sound very unlikely at first, coupled with the next console generation rumors the idea of a 2020 release date becomes much more realistic. Current rumors suggest that the next console generation will be released in the 2018-2020 period also.
If TES6 is going to be released in that period then gamers can expect to see a lot of innovative changes coming to the game series to make the most out of the new technology which will be offered by the next generation consoles.
