Google is going to release a couple of new phones before the year ends. So, this only means that new Nexus devices should be on the way any time soon. However, not many people know that these new smartphones are going to be built by HTC. In fact, they will become the new flagship phones for the Android 7 Nougat OS. To know more about these updates, here are a few facts to consider.
It has been rumored that Huawei was given the right to create the new Nexus after the successful release of the Nexus 6P. Although it was confirmed by a Chinese manufacturer that Huawei was going to create this new Nexus, rumors have once again made another path. This time, HTC was given a break to deliver, as it was claimed that the company could be the next sole partner of Google. This was given light despite the first dual release made in the previous year was indeed a success. However, the rights from those releases were split between Huawei and LG.
The two handsets will be codenamed Sailfish and Marlin. The successor of the Nexus 6P will be the Marlin which will be bigger and more capable, while the Sailfish will be the follow-up of the 5X. Perhaps HTC is also looking to its current flagship device, the HTC 10, which should be used as a basis for the development of the premium unit such as the Marlin.
Expected Date of Release
Many people already know about the rumors, but not all of them are certain about the release date. However, it is more likely to be released on October or November of the current year. The basis of this was the release of the 5X and the 6P which were announced on September of last year and were shipped only by the following month. In this case, this pattern is expected to be followed with the release of these new phones.
Basically, Nexus devices don’t support any flashy designs, as they are only intended to be reference points so that other Android manufacturers can mimic. Likewise, they can showcase for the latest Android OS versions.
According to rumors, the new Sailfish should have the following features:
- A 5-inch display with 1080p resolution and 440ppi pixel density
- 2.0GHz Quad-core 64-bit processor
- It will have at least 4GB of RAM
- Battery should be a bit lower that should reach up to 2770mAh
- In terms of storage, it reaches around 12MP at the rear end, and 8MP in front
- Fingerprint scanner mounted on the rear side
- USB-C port
- Bluetooth port 4.2
Rumors are just rumors until the final release date has been revealed to the public. Nevertheless, the facts and figures presented here should be a bit helpful to get firsthand information that should not be available to others. The HTC Sailfish might be a bit promising for many people, but the actual design can slightly differ from the rumors presented here.
