Maxis, Electronic Arts, The Sims Studio have done a relatively good job with providing new skins and game packs for The Sims 4, but it seems that fans are getting antsy and are looking forward to The Sims 5. Unfortunately, it seems that the fifth installment in the franchise won’t see the light of day anytime soon.

One reason for this is that it’s not yet time for it to be released. EA rolled out the previous Sims games with four or five years in between them: The Sims was released in 2000, followed by The Sims 2 in 2004, The Sims 3 in 2009, and The Sims 4 in 2014. If the publisher sticks to this pattern, then The Sims 5 will most likely be released in 2018 or 2019.

However, there’s no assurance that the fifth installment will become a reality. Maxis has already revealed that the creation of The Sims 5 depends on the performance and commercial success of The Sims 4. Given that the fourth installment in the franchise scored only 70 out of 100 on Metacritic and has received generally lukewarm praise from gamers, there’s always the chance that Maxis and EA won’t give The Sims 5 the green light.

This can be depressing news for fans of the game but, considering there hasn’t been a final decision yet, The Sims 5 still has the chance to be developed. There’s also the possibility that the game’s developers are basing the fifth installment on virtual reality which, as we all know, has taken the spotlight in the gaming world. Creating a VR-based game takes a lot of time and effort, which may probably explain why it took so long for The Sims 5 to be released.

It’s important to note, though, that these are just speculations, which means we’ll have to wait for an official statement from Maxis, EA, and The Sims Studios about The Sims 5.
