Sony has suspended its Xperia Beta Program in July because both devices that were part of it (Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact) have received the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware. But the South Korean company has rebooted the program for Android 7.0 Nougat and for now, there’s only one participant: the Xperia X Performance.

If you happen to live in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain or Sweden and you’ve bought Sony’s Xperia X Performance, then you can sign up for the Xperia Beta Program, to beta test the first build of Android 7.0 Nougat. But, if you’re an American, you’ll have to wait a few more months, until Nougat will officially roll out to the Xperia X Performance worldwide.

It’s important to understand that the beta program doesn’t guarantee that Nougat will be very stable, so users shouldn’t expect an extreme performance, but based on their feedback, Sony will know which features don’t work, so the developers will fix all glitches and will provide a seamless experience. If you’re not ready to deal with bugs and a strange behavior, then don’t test out this beta software and instead, wait for the official release of Nougat.

The Xperia X Performance was released in June with a premium metal finish, being the high end variant of the new trio. The phone is dust proof and water resistant, it has a 5-inch IPS LCD screen with a Full HD resolution at 441ppi, which is protected with a scratch-resistant glass, and it’s powered by a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 quad core processor (2×2.15 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo) backed by an Adreno 530 GPU and 3GB of RAM.

The internal memory has a capacity of 32GB, but it’s expandable up to 256GB, and the battery is kind of small, of 2700mAh. Plus, it can be removed, so it will be a problem in time, when its life will start decreasing. As for the primary camera, it has a resolution of 23MP and it offers features such as phase detection autofocus and LED flash, while the secondary camera is 13MP.
