While EA hasn’t officially confirmed that they are developing the game some of their employees have commented on the game in the past; game producer Grant Rodiek stated in an official The Sims forum post the chances of releasing The Sims 5 any time soon were extremely low. He also stated that if The Sims 4 isn’t well received then the franchise will end before the release of The Sims 5.
Details on The Sims 5 are very limited right now, mostly due to the reason given by Rodiek about the future of the franchise. Current rumors however suggest that EA is looking at the possibility to integrating VR with the game, no details about how they intend to do this are available at this time.
It’s been confirmed that The Sims 4 will not be released on consoles however, reports state that The Sims 5 will be released on the next-generation consoles; the next-generation consoles are expected to be released some time between 2017 and 2019. Games in this series are typically released with 4/5 year gaps in-between them and following this, The Sims 5 will be released in 2019. Some reports also claim that EA intends for this game to be in a console bundle.
