Nexus 9 is one of the options you should consider if you’re planning to buy a big tablet. It comes with an 8.9-inch screen and has a 4:3 aspect ratio that contributes to an excellent gaming and web browsing experience. It does have its downsides (e.g. the lack of a microSD slot), but it’s a decent option overall.

Before you buy, though, you must first know about latest updates about the Nexus 9. Here are some of the things you should know:

  1. HTC no longer manufactures the tablet

Taiwanese tech giant HTC, which manufactured the Nexus 9 in partnership with Google, announced on May 2016 that they’re no longer producing the tablet. This doesn’t mean that we’ll run out of Nexus 9 units right away; there’s still enough supply, but HTC will no longer manufacture additional units. Google Play Store no longer sells it, although you can still buy one from HTC’s website or through a mobile phone carrier.

  1. Security patches have been released for it

Two security patches, which are dated 2016-08-01 and 2016-08-05, have been rolled out for the Nexus 9 as well as other Nexus devices. These patches will fix a total of 42 bugs, some of which are considered critical while others are moderate. If you’ll get your Nexus 9 soon, make sure to download these updates ASAP to enhance your security.

  1. It’s now compatible with Remix OS

Remix OS is an operating system that’s developed by Jide (a company founded by a trio of ex-Google engineers) and is dubbed as a “desktop version of Android”. It has received mainly positive feedback from many people so, if you want to give it a try, you can download it on your Nexus 9.

  1. It will receive Android 7

There are reports that Google will release Android Nougat this August and that the Nexus 9 will be one of the first few devices to receive it. If this turns out to be true, Nexus 9 owners will be the envy of many since they’ll experience Nougat’s features before other people do.
