Pokémon Go players must follow a map that lets them know where they can find Pokémon. And, they catch various types of Pokémon based on the environment they are in. Every now and then, a rare Pokémon will appear. However, this is where the Ingress map can be so useful. Players can use it to find rare Pokémon.

It’s been nearly two weeks since the release of Pokémon Go, and millions of people all around the world are playing it. In fact, Niantic, which hosts the games on its servers, had problems after the game was released in the U.S., delaying the launch for folks in Europe. It appears all the issues were taken care of, and people in many European countries have begun their hike on city streets to capture Pokémon.

In order to play Pokémon Go, players need to have an Android or iOS compatible device that uses their GPS and camera to capture the Pokémon. They will need to follow a map that lets them know how close or far Pokémon are and catch them before other players do. It’s a bit maddening to hunt down the rare Pokémon and not catch them all because other players are getting them faster.

However, with Ingress’ help, players can use its map to find the rarer Pokémon easily. There are two key features on this map:

  • Portals – many are being changed into gyms and Pokestops
  • XM Fields – these are Pokémon spawn points

These are white dots, which mark areas where there’s a lot of cell usage. It lets people know where the crowded locations are and to avoid them so they can search other areas for the rare Pokémon.

Some of the rare Pokémon caught to date include but is not limited to:

  • Blastoise
  • Charizard
  • Charmeleon
  • Dragonite
  • Gyrados
  • Lapras
  • Machamp
  • Poliwrath
  • Slowbro
  • Weezing
