At the end of March, WhatsApp has introduced the option to send bold, italic and strikethrough text in messages. Now, a new font has been unveiled in the latest beta release and it’s called FixedSys, but more about it we’ll tell you below.
Almost five months ago, WhatsApp users were excited about the new text formatting which allowed them to write in bold, italics or strikethrough. A bolded word or phrase was obtained by putting it between asterisks (*text*); to make the text italic, users added an underscore before and after it (_text_); and a strikethrough text was put between tildes (~text~).
Now, a new font is making its debut and it’s called FixedSys. It didn’t appear in leaks or rumors, so it was surprising to see it in WhatsApp 2.16.179 beta, which was added to the Google Play store. This means that WhatsApp will delay the release of a new stable version until it will make sure that all bugs will be fixed and the application won’t have any problems with the recently introduced features.
So, in order to use the FixedSys font, you will add “` before and after the word or phrase and simply send it. This font will make the text appear expanded and the letters will have a space between them. It’s fun to send formatted text in messages, as it breaks the routine and your friends will surely enjoy chatting with you even more.
In order to download WhatsApp 2.16.179 from the Google Play store, you will need to become a beta tester by going to the official Android store and tapping the “Become a Tester” button. There are low chances for devices running on Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1, Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1 to benefit from the new changes, because they will no longer be supported by the end of this year.
