The international variant of the Honor 5X started receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update two weeks ago and now the US variant is also being upgraded. Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Honor 5X was customized with Huawei’s EMUI 4.0, a user interface that is found on other non-Honor models.
“It’s fluffy. It’s sweet. And it’s finally here. Starting today, we are pleased to begin rolling out the highly anticipated Marshmallow update, working hand-in-hand to give you a smoother, smarter and a more intuitive Honor 5X experience. As part of this update, Honor 5X will also be receiving EMUI 4.0,” has announced Huawei through a blog post.
This means that the US owners of the Honor 5X are enjoying the new features that were introduced in Marshmallow, such as Google Now on Tap, Doze or improved app permissions, but besides them, the update also includes changes to EMUI 4.0 consisting of:
– Mission Control: when the screen is on standby you will initiate different functions by touching the screen in various motions;
– Navigation Bar: offers you the possibility to customize the order of icons;
– Drag Actions: by dragging top down on the left side, you will have access to notifications, while when dragging top down on the right side, you will see all shortcuts;
– One-Hand Mode: will allow you to use only one hand to operate on the big 5.5-inch screen. If you swipe left at the bottom of the screen, you will use the phone with your left hand, and if you swipe right, you’ll use your right hand only.
The Honor 5X is a phablet covered in metal which was released in November 2015 with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. The device isn’t really a flagship, as it’s price is 200 dollars. Inside, it houses a Qualcomm MSM8939v2 Snapdragon 616 chip with a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU backed by 2GB or 3GB of RAM (depending on the regions where it’s available), the internal memory has a capacity of 16GB and it’s expandable up to 256GB. The rear camera is 13MP and offers basic features, while the front camera is 5MP. The battery is non-removable and with a capacity of 3000mAh.
