Facebook is a place for socializing and it’s visited by people from all over the world – home users, VIPs or companies that promote their products, events or promotions. And users will know ahead of time what parties, expositions or other events will be organized, so they will decide what destination to pick up. This is why Facebook’s developers are launching Featured Events, a feature that will be very useful for the 550 million people who are using the Events platform daily.

Featured Events will inform users about upcoming events related to festivals, concerts, sports, food & drink, entertainment, family, community etc. These events will take place in your town and instead of visiting company’s pages to check out their activity, their events appear in News Feed and in Events sections like Popular With Friends and Suggested For You. However, in most cases, users found out about these events a little too late and they missed them.



Facebook will help organizers to reach their audience long before events take place and everyone will have plenty time to make plans in advance. Facebook Events product manager Aditya Koolwal explained that users will have “enough to time to see what the Featured Events are, reach out to friends, and see if they want to go.”

For starters, when this new feature will be released for iOS, it will be available for a few US cities such as Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. Then, Facebook will roll out Featured Events to more regions and for Android devices, as well.

Aditya Koolwal hasn’t said anything about Facebook’s plans to bring a standalone Events app, because “The cost to installing an app is high. If we can build a lot of discovery features into Facebook and get people to use them, that’s a huge win”.
