It seems that Tencent Holdings has just purchased 84% of the mobile game developer Supercell. If you are a Clash of Clans fan, then you should know that your favorite game has just been purchased (for 84%) by the company we’ve just mentioned above.

Supercell is currently worth 10.2 billion dollars and Tencent just paid 8.6 billion dollars to purchase 84% of the gaming company. We also remind you that along the popular Clash of Clans game, Supercell also owns other pretty good titles such as “Clash Royale”, “Boom Beach” or “Hay Day”, all being listed as the top 20 games in App Store based on revenue back in May 2016. According to Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, Tencent will be able to enter markets that had no role until now and this is a good thing for the company.

We also remind you that Tencent has control over Riot’s most popular multiplayer game, “League of Legends” and it has no brand power in Western markets. By acquiring the Finnish company, Tencent will now be able to introduce itself in Europe and North America, but also establish a commanding presence in China, Korea and Japan.

However, the Chinese company will not only benefit from this deal, as Supercell’s products will also have to win, as it is pretty good to have an investor such as Tencent, which is a well known investment holding company from China. In other words, this will make a huge difference and popular games such as Clash of Clans will surely win a good amount of new players thanks to this.

According to a research firm that goes by the name of Newzoo, thanks to this deal it will general about 13  billion dollars this year. In other words, this is about 13% of the world’s video gaming market. We can also compare it with another leading company in the industry, which is Activision Blizzard, which only generated 6.7 billion dollars last year. In other words, Clash of Clans is heading to the right direction and the game will grow even more in the next months.
