The Latest Marshmallow News for the Samsung Galaxy S5, S7 Edge, and Note 4

Android 6.0 (better known as Marshmallow) has been rolling out quite steadily for Samsung smartphones and phablets, despite its late and rocky start. Many Samsung device owners around the world have now been able to update their OS to Marshmallow, although it’s safe to say that not all users have received the update.

Still, the fact that Samsung and major telecom carriers are continuing the rollout means that more and more people will get Marshmallow soon.

Samsung Galaxy S5

Those who own Galaxy S5 handsets in South Korea will soon get their hands on Android Marshmallow. Specifically, the Marshmallow update will roll out starting this month and will be available for unlocked Galaxy S5 units on KT, LG Uplus, and SK Telecom. It’s surprising that it took several months before the update was made available in the country, considering that the tech giant originated in South Korea, but it’s still good news for Samsung fans.

Just a couple of days ago, U.S. carrier Verizon also announced that Android 6.0 will be rolled out for its Samsung Galaxy S5 handsets. This will update users’ software version to MMB29M.G900VVRU2DPD1.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Aside from releasing the Marshmallow update for the Samsung Galaxy S5, Verizon will also roll out a similar update for the Note 4. Users will be updated to the MMB29M.N910VVRU2CPD1 version of the software.

Note 4 handsets in Europe are also receiving the Marshmallow updates. Specifically, several users in Italy, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, and Greece have reported that their Samsung Galaxy Note 4 units have been receiving the update. It’s not clear, though, when the update would be made available in Note 4 handsets in other European countries.

Samsung Galaxy S7

It might seem surprising for some that the Galaxy S7 is due to receive a Marshmallow update. After all, the newly released smartphone came pre-installed with Android 6.0. It has been confirmed, though, that Samsung Galaxy S7 units with the model number G935F will receive an update that would upgrade its software to Android 6.0.1.

When this happens, the state-of-the-art smartphone will receive the latest security patches, experience fewer bugs and issues, and get a few new features, such as condensed text scaling. However, Galaxy S7 owners may have to wait for a few weeks before they can receive the Marshmallow update since it’s being rolled out in stages. Those who don’t know the model number of their S7 can find out by going to Settings and choosing About Phone.
