There’s a new important update for your OnePlus One which is “MOD ready”. Cyanogen OS 13.1 actually comes with the “mod” that Cyanogen has introduced in February, which means that third party app features can be built into the OS without installing them manually and users will have a better control over their devices.
“Mods are your favorite features, right where you expect them. Mods give you a way to make your smartphone uniquely yours, welcome to the post-app era,” said Cyanogen on its blog. By making Cyanogen OS 13.1 “Mod ready”, the manufacturer will be able to tweak parts of the Android-based platform and we’ll tell you about a few things that you will do very easily. So, if you want to make Skype calls, you will do it within the device’s Phone app, and if you want to take notes with OneNote, you will do it within the Email and Phone applications.
OnePlus One owners in the US will use Cortana to take hands-free selfies by giving voice commands, and they will set reminders and access their schedules without needing to unlock their devices. Microsoft has also brought its Hyperlapse technology to this phone and with it, users can capture stable time-lapse videos with the camera app.
There’s also a non-Microsoft mod and it shows trending tweets on the lock screen. However, users will need to manually activate Twitter and Cortana lock screen mods by going to Settings, and this will prevent random people from taking a sneak peek at what is shown on their lock screen. Anyway, it’s very easy to enable a Mod on the screen, as users will just tap on Lock Screen, then select Lock Screen Mods, and tap on the mod they want to use.
For now, Cyanogen OS 13.1 is available only for the OnePlus One, but soon, it will roll out to other smartphones, as well.
