A couple of days ago whoever had the inspiration to go to the Xbox Store saw that the price for the Fallout 4 was drastically reduced. So much so that it cost… nothing! The price online was 0 dollars, and there were some people who actually bought it. This surprise wasn’t just for the game itself, but also for the deluxe edition, for other add-ons and season pass.
Players all around the world added the game and it worked, to their surprise. Many believed that it was a generous surprise from Bethesda, though it was more generous than they would have ever imagined.
Sadly, after a couple of minutes this wasn’t available anymore, and later the company announced it was in fact a mistake. The cause was poor maintenance of the store which was eventually fixed and the prices went back to their normal numbers, to fans’ disappointment.
What is even sadder is the fact that those who got some copies of the free games will not be allowed to keep them. A Microsoft representative said that the licenses for the deluxe edition will be automatically removed to those who took advantage of this situation. However, he didn’t mention anything about the other licenses.
The only chance to play the game for free would have been to buy the game then, download it and then disconnect the Xbox from the network. A more recent update showed that Microsoft announced they will “reward” those who were inconvenienced by this by placing $10 into their Microsoft accounts until the end of this month. The money will be available for an entire year, so they will get the chance to spend them at their own pleasure. Even so, many still believe it is unfair.
