A new WhatsApp BETA version has been released for Android devices and it can now be downloaded and installed directly from the Google Play Store. Unfortunately, the new WhatsApp 2.16.117 doesn’t come with any new features, but we have noticed some internal changes of which we will talk about below.

The WhatsApp 2.16.117 APK (installation) file has been increased by 155KB. The different size is quite big when compared to the previous APK files, but this is because 4 new files have been added (“conversation_row_decryption_failure_left.xml”, “input_circle_green.xml”, “conversation_row_decryption_failure_right.xml” and “contact_picker.xml”) and there are 6 new icons (“input_circle_green_pressed.png”, “groups.png”, “recent.png”, “people.png” and “”).

Unfortunately, none of the new files is related to the rumored Video Calling feature, which means that the developers will not bring it to the application very soon. We remind you that this feature has been spotted in some leaked pictures, which showcased the WhatsApp application with Video Calling feature running on an iOS device.

WhatsApp 2.16.117: How To Install On Your Android Device

As we’ve told you above, the WhatsApp 2.16.117 can be installed directly from the Google Play Store.  However, if you are not a WhatsApp BETA tester yet, head to this page and tap on the “BECOME A TESTER” button. Finally, you will just need to open the Google Play Store, search for WhatsApp 2.16.117 and install it on your Android device.

Since the WhatsApp 2.16.117 is currently in BETA phase, you will most likely find bugs, issues and other problems that you should report to the developers so they can fix them before the next WhatsApp STABLE version is released for all users. However, if the company wants to keep up the pace with other mobile messaging applications, they will need to bring the Video Calling feature as soon as possible, or else they will fall behind and users will start uninstalling WhatsApp from their devices.
