Sony has moved with snail’s pace and waited a lot of months until it finally released Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, but users will get only a beta update with build number 23.5.A.1.203. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note Edge, which was released in November 2014, has been upgraded to the final version of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and the installation file that users will download while connected to a wireless network has 1.5GB in size.

First, let’s start with the Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact smartphones that have received a beta update of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with 400 fixes and improvements. Users remember the annoying unknown call/private number bug that gave them headaches, and developers did their best to find a solution to remove them. Also, they’ve included the option to transfer applications to microSD cards and most likely, they will keep improving the software until it will run flawlessly.

In the beta program, Sony has accepted the following devices: Xperia Z2 (D6503), Xperia Z3 (D6603) and Xperia Z3 Compact (D5803) and the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is now available to users from America, Canada and India. Soon, the firmware will be available to other Xperia models such as Z4 Tablet, Z3 Tablet Compact, M5, C5 Ultra, M4 Aqua and C4.

As for the Galaxy Note Edge, Marshmallow 6.0.1 update that started rolling out to it comes with improvements to the TouchWiz UI, and other improvements related to the edge display. The phablet cam pre-installed with Android 4.4.4 KitKat and in the past 12 months, the functionality of the additional screen has been improved significantly, after the device has been upgraded to Lollipop. The latest Marshmallow update brought new features such as Google Now on Tap, Doze and App permissions. However, for now, this update is available for the unlocked variant of the Galaxy Note Edge. Soon, carriers will start rolling it out, as well.
